真救世主伝説 北斗の拳 ラオウ伝 殉愛の章
Directed by Takahiro Imamura
Synopsis
A film adaptation of the Holy Emperor story arc, which primarily depicted the conflict between Kenshiro and Souther. New characters Reina, one of Raoh's army officers who falls in love with him, and her brother Soga, Raoh's advisor, play an important part with much of the plot involving Raoh's relationship with Reina as he conquers the land; most of this portion is new content exclusive to this film. The other side of the story is the retelling of Ken's attempt to save and protect the villagers from Souther's army with the help of Shū. There is also a small subplot of Bart returning to his home.

The Anime Marches On! 2020 Challenge (18/32)
Five anime films from the 2000s (3/5)
--
Compared to this film, the original Fist of the North Star was so organic you could practically feel your hands down in the dirt of that post-apocalyptic fighting world. Meanwhile Fist of the North Star: Legend of Raoh – Chapter of Death in Love (whew) is…sterile. The CGI is crisp, clean, detailed, and very very static, and we spend a lot more time getting very talky history lessons involving characters we can barely keep track of than watching badass fight scenes. But there are fight scenes…or at least, there's a number of hyper-dramatic start-stop "fights to the death" featuring lots of ripped dudes crying while blood pours out of a newly-created hole in their body. More of a struggle to get through than something with this strong of a Mad Max vibe should ever be. -

It's alright, I felt like I would have enjoyed it more as a kid, some of the stuff was so silly like what does a 10ft tall horse eat but I enjoyed the hype moments

Fist Of The North Star is my favorite manga/anime series and this movie is awesome

Man, I tried to get into this but even two beers in, I just couldn't. Part of what's great about the old '80s series is that it's kind of oblivious to its own stylings, which allows you to kind of switch off and enjoy it on a cheesy-awesome level.
This one is so aware of coming off hyper cool at all times... from the designs to the voices, the directing to the soundtrack. Each character has their own dedicated, comic-book detailed art and shading, moving them almost like clip art over computer-assisted backgrounds. There's such importance placed on getting the shading right on each ab at every moment, the whole thing feels stiff and sterile.
As a general rule: nobody and nothing cool is trying very hard to be cool. This is trying REALLY hard.

Don't worry, this boulder is much lighter that the weight of your young lives.
Even if my breath will fail me, I'll carry it with the strength of my soul!Well, now i know what I do not care about when it comes to Hokuto no Ken: the political intrigue, simplistic and goofy, and the martial arts fictitious history and rules, a little arbitrary and inconsistent.
What I do really love about Ken are the raw emotions provoked by watching men reduced to little more than raging beasts in the nuclear apocalypse being mowed down by a depressed Jusus figure with a heart of gold. The setting and the desolation, the feeling that the whole world might return to normal thanks to the actions of this lonely figure with big dumb eyebrows.
The secondary characters are fine and all, Raoul is a compelling villain and Shu is cool as heck, but there was excruciatingly little Ken in this...

i liked the additional raoh characterization but they cut out pretty much everything about souther’s motivations which reduces him to a pretty generic villain outside of the pressure point thing. i also don’t really like some of the voices, especially raoh’s.

Too many changes: a diminished villain (who became paper-flat), an interesting variation on Raô, an added character that happens to be useless far too often (a missed occasion).
Despite the number of promised films for this new adaptation, the story is so compressed that it relies on many, many talks. Still not as bad as it could be in this department. May interest people who already know the original, at the cost of losing newcomers.
A fabulous look (original style sublimed by Araki's rendering), but a bit too stilted.
A nice piece of post-apocalyptic action.Score: 7/10
Enjoyment: 5/5I would still advise beginners to try starting with the manga.
